Bridge Project Engineer

Objective

Direct comprehensive bridge design and engineering projects with full technical leadership responsibility. This position targets licensed Professional Engineers (PE) with extensive civil or structural engineering experience seeking to lead transportation infrastructure initiatives. The role emphasizes technical excellence in bridge design, structural analysis, inspection, and load rating while providing mentorship opportunities for junior staff. Responsibilities

  • Direct bridge design operations including structural load rating calculations, comprehensive structural analysis, and foundation system design
  • Generate complete design plans, technical specifications, and detailed cost estimates for bridge and transportation infrastructure projects
  • Oversee comprehensive documentation systems for bridge design files, technical reports, and project budget management
  • Lead project planning sessions and coordinate tasks to achieve scope, schedule, and budget objectives
  • Provide strategic project management support through advanced schedule coordination, documentation oversight, and presentation leadership
  • Ensure comprehensive design compliance with state and local regulatory standards, building codes, and safety requirements
  • Execute advanced field inspection operations and produce detailed bridge condition assessment reports with foundation analysis
  • Deliver expert technical assistance during construction phases, manage Requests for Information (RFI) responses, and direct site visits
  • Provide technical mentorship and professional development guidance to junior engineering staff
  • Coordinate complex project activities with internal teams, clients, subconsultants, and regulatory agencies

Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • Over 10 years of transportation engineering experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Advanced proficiency in MicroStation software
  • Expert-level experience with STAAD structural analysis software
  • Mastery of bridge design software applications
  • Complex engineering problem-solving and critical analysis capabilities
  • Project leadership and strategic task prioritization abilities
  • Construction phase technical support and RFI management experience
  • Junior staff mentorship and technical development experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Extensive structures/bridge design engineering experience
  • Advanced familiarity with state DOT design standards (NYSDOT or PennDOT)
  • Leadership experience in multi-disciplinary project coordination
  • Advanced field inspection and bridge condition assessment expertise
  • Project planning and budget management experience
